Dater After School Clubs and Activities 2025-2026

Dater School offers many clubs to help enrich the social experience and further explore young interests and hobbies. Some clubs will be run in school, and families will get special communications about those from the Dater front office as they come up. The PTO helps organize lottery sign-ups for after school clubs, and we are excited to launch our new club ranking system, which will help ensure that all interested students get into at least one club of their choosing.

How to sign up:

  • Below you will find a brief description of all the clubs at Dater, with the time of year they are available.
  • Please speak with your student about the offerings, and decide which clubs they would like to sign up for, in order of preference.
  • Follow this link to the Dater Club Ranking Form, fill out the student/parent information fields, then drag and drop each club to match your child’s preference order. Click the red X to omit any clubs they do not wish to rank.
  • You will get an email confirmation that you have filled out the form, with your child’s club preferences in ranked order.
  • NOTE: You may fill out the form as many times as you want prior to the deadline of Sunday, September 21 to re-rank your child’s choices, but only the most recently submitted form will count.

Art Club

The after school Art Club is an opportunity for students to express their thoughts, feelings and creativity through various art forms. Dater students will work on school-wide projects, as well as an independent project over the course of 6 meetings… and have lots of FUN in the process! Grades are combined, with both a Winter and Spring session to choose from.

Flag Football

Starting in October, this program is played on the grass field (weather permitting) at Dater, and is high energy and lots of fun! There will be separate sessions per grade.

Lego Robotics

Perfect for any student interested in robotics. There is an emphasis on creativity and problem solving using LEGO mindstorms EV3 kits first and Tetrix Prime robotic kits. Using sensors, motors and detailed instructions, students will work in small groups to build robots that will have to perform an assigned task(s). Students may be able to exhibit their robot creations at the Smith Middle School STEM night. There will be separate sessions per grade, running from October through February, and meeting 1-2 times per week.

Yard Games

Learn how to play various yard games and ultimate frisbee. Running in May-June, with separate sessions per grade. Disclaimer: This club may be changed to a recess club, instead of an after school club. We will keep families updated.

Yoga Club

From January through March, students will learn and practice the basic yoga postures and mindful breathing. A great way for students to reduce stress, connect with their thoughts and practice mindful movement. There will be separate sessions per grade.

**CLUB ASSIGNMENTS HAVE BEEN EMAILED!!**

If you have not heard about your child's club assingment, and you submitted the ranking form, please reach out to the Main Office. Thank you!

Important Information

  • No child will be allowed to participate without a parent's permission.
  • All clubs meet once per week (actual day TBD), except for Robotics, which will meet 1-2 times per week.
  • All clubs have a limited capacity of 20-24 students, selected by lottery, NOT first-come, first-served.
  • Filling out the form is not a guarantee that your child will get the top club they desire, and the more clubs you rank, the greater the chance they will be selected for at least one. The form will also create waitlists, so that in the event that a selected student is unable to attend, waitlisted students will get a call from the office with an opportunity to join.
  • The Dater Front Office will be in touch with more details after the ranking form closes on Sunday, 9/21.
  • It is the parent’s responsibility to provide transportation from the school when the after school activities are over.
  • Families will fill out a transportation permission slip from the Front Office. Students will only be allowed to leave as described on their permission slip, which will be filled out once the office confirms you're student has been selected for a given club. If you have changes, you must email the Club/Intramural Teacher or call the school at 201-785-2325.
  • You will be notified of changes to the schedule and make-up sessions based on the emails you provided when you registered for the Dater PTO Website.
